Tell us about your journey to the boardroom. What inspired you to seek a leadership position?

My commitment as a nurse to improving services for families in Illinois across the Lifespan.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

RWJF PHN Leader.

What impact have you had serving on a board? Example?

I have the perspective of a nurse in practice at a local health department in Illinois on a board for a state not-for-profit.

What advice would you give someone going into a board leadership position for the first time?

Pick an organization with a mission that matches your passion. It will be well worth your time!

What are a few resources you would recommend to someone looking to gain insight into becoming a better leader and eventually obtaining a board position?

Why do you feel it is important for nurses to serve on boards?

Our healthcare system needs the nursing perspective to improve our healthcare system.

What do you think is the most significant barrier to nurses serving on boards?

Board service is not seen as a traditional nursing role.
