Mission: To improve the health of communities
through the service of nurses on boards
The Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC) has long championed the mission of improving the health of communities through the service of nurses on boards. As healthcare continues to evolve, the role of nurses in governance becomes increasingly vital. To advance this mission, NOBC developed its Strategic Plan for 2026–2028, anchored in three foundational pillars: Connect, Transform, and Impact. These pillars form the framework for actionable objectives that will guide the coalition’s efforts over the next three years.

NOBC developed this strategic plan through a collaborative and forward-thinking process. The team began with an environmental scan to assess current trends in healthcare governance, nursing leadership, and community health needs. Stakeholders —including nursing organizations, board members, and healthcare partners—contributed insights to ensure the plan reflects both present realities and future opportunities.
The planning team aligned the coalition’s mission with measurable goals that would amplify nurses’ influence in decision-making spaces. Each pillar addresses a critical dimension of NOBC’s work: building relationships, enhancing leadership capacity, and driving systemic change.
The first pillar, Connect, emphasizes building meaningful relationships and uniting communities of interest by engaging nurses as board members. Key objectives include:
The second pillar, Transform, enhances nurses’ effectiveness on boards through targeted education and mentorship. Objectives under this pillar include:
The third pillar, Impact, drives organizational outcomes by amplifying nurses’ influence in governance and research. Objectives include:
The 2026–2028 Strategic Plan positions NOBC to strengthen its role as a catalyst for change. By connecting leaders, transforming capabilities, and driving impact, the coalition will continue to elevate nurses as essential voices in governance. This plan is not just a roadmap—it is a commitment to advancing health equity and improving community well-being through the power of nursing leadership.
NOBC extends its sincere appreciation to Myriam Guillen for her partnership and expertise in co‑creating the 2026–2028 Strategic Plan.
