Tell us about your journey to the boardroom. What inspired you to seek a leadership position?

As a nurse, I have been a member of Ohio Nurses Association for 31 years and have been in office on the boards for over 20 years. I started as a treasurer and negotiated 5 contracts for the nurses.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

I continue my education on nursing and safety.

What impact have you had serving on a board? Example?

I am bringing new nurses abroad.

What advice would you give someone going into a board leadership position for the first time?

Believe in yourself and set goals to achieve.

What are a few resources you would recommend to someone looking to gain insight into becoming a better leader and eventually obtaining a board position?

Attend meetings in nursing and open yourself to new experiences.

Why do you feel it is important for nurses to serve on boards?

We need to promote healthcare for all Americans. A healthy America is a strong America.

What do you think is the most significant barrier to nurses serving on boards?

Gender biases.
